                                                                  FR 351 Advanced Conversation & Composition I

Fall 2004

 

Course Description:

           

            Extensive reading, debating, writing, related to contemporary issues within the francophone world as expressed in books, newspapers, films, and television programs.  Further practice of translation and interpretation.  Course conducted essentially in French.

 

Objectives:

 

            Help students achieve a sufficient level of competency in speaking French as spoken by a proficient speaker at normal conversational tempo on non-technical general topics, and to write well structured compositions, essays, reports, and letters, in a clear, concise style, exempt from spelling mistakes.

 

Methodology:

 

1.                  Directed reading of a contemporary French play

2.                  Condensed narrative writing from the play

3.                  Presentations and discussion from French TV programs

4.                  Presentations and debates from French weekly press

5.                  Exercises of translation-interpretation

6.                  Oral presentations from film sequences

7.                  Final examination

                          All written materials should be systematically corrected and re-written

Disability Services and Accommodation for Students:

              Scholastic misconduct may be cause for a failing grade, and information may be placed about the incident in the student’s permanent file in the Office of Academic Affairs.  Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on assignments or examinations, plagiarizing, misrepresenting work, or interfering with someone else’s work.
