About Derek Faasse
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where I lived for 8 years. While in Kalamazoo, I worked at a preschool and infant center as a teacher in the Young Fives program as well as a caregiver in the nursery. It was there that I developed my passion for educating and allowing others to reach their full potential, regardless of age.
Prior to college, I attended Lee High School in Wyoming, Michigan, where my graduating class was only 50 students. Because of my experience with personal attention and a close-knit community, I'm a huge proponent of what LSSU has to offer to all its students.
In my free time I enjoy being active, and consider myself somewhat of a competitive runner. I've run at least one mile every single day in 2012 and put more than 1200 miles running onto my feet in 2011, a figure that will increase in 2012. I enjoy racing and have a number of top finishes at various distances. Apart from running, I love to cook, bike, swim, read, and write music.
For the past 8 years I have worked as an instructor and music arranger for many of Michigan's top marching band programs and I love sharing my passion for music with people of all ages.
Like I mentioned, I have a passion for helping others reach their full potential and find their passion in life. If you have any questions about what LSSU can do for you, feel free to get in touch with me and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.
