“I chose LSSU expecting a very good engineering education. What I didn’t expect was faculty with real-world engineering experience and abilities, labs with real-world equipment, projects with real-world outcomes, and an entire campus staff with real interest in my success, as a student and yet today. My LSSU engineering education has created or supported every desired career opportunity. LSSU was absolutely the right place for me.”

Athletics at the University: Varsity and Intramural
As with many universities, athletics at LSSU are an integral part of the campus community. They encourage teamwork and camaraderie between student athletes and they also promote healthy relations between the University, the community and other schools.
Lake Superior State University Athletics participate in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) at a NCAA Division II ranking, while our Men’s Ice Hockey is a NCAA Division I sport.
The Varsity sports at LSSU include:
Cross Country
Golf
Men’s Basketball
Men’s Ice-Hockey
Men’s Tennis
Softball
Track & Field
Women’s Tennis
Women’s Volleyball
Intramurals
Let’s face it, not all of us were meant to be college athletes. For those of us out there who seek athletic activity purely as enjoyment, Lake State offers Intramural activities open to all students. With intramurals there is no harsh workout regimen and the schedules fit better with most students’ schedules. So if you were an athlete in High School and you feel as though Collegiate Varsity Sports are not for you, check out the intramurals. You will find that they are a fun, fast-paced and exciting way to release competitive energy.
The Intramural Sports at LSSU currently include, but are not limited to:
Basketball
Billiards
Broomball
Dodgeball
Flag Football
Floor Hockey
Indoor Soccer
Outdoor Soccer
Racquetball
Stickball
Tennis
Volleyball
Wally Ball
Other Options for Students
The Norris Center features many recreational opportunities for our students, including swimming and diving pools, racquetball courts, and weightrooms. In addition, the Student Activity Center features a 200 meter indoor track, cardiovascular and weight machines, as well as 4 multi-use courts.
Some of our student organizations are athletically oriented as well, such as: the Cheerleading Club, Kuk Sool Won (Korean Martial Arts Club), Men’s Club Hockey, Superior Swing Dance Club and the Professional Recreation Club.
So whether you seek group or individual Athletics, LSSU has something for you.
LSSU was one of five finalists that were invited to present papers at the conference. The other universities that were invited were: Cornell University, Michigan Tech, Air Force Academy, and University of Puerto Rico.
