"Most natural science classes at LSSU offer students as much hands-on experience (lab hours) as lecture hours, which ensures that the university experience prepares us for the real world careers, whether you work at a desk or out in the field, or both. There are endless advantages and opportunities available to LSSU students due to its location on an international border.

I found my career path on campus when my advisor posted a job for the Bi-national Public Advisory Council (BPAC), a group dedicated to and overseeing the clean-up the St. Mary's River. I was able to gain experience and network on both sides of the border, ultimately finding full-time employment before I graduated with my biology degree."

Value of Lake Superior State University

Because Lake State is the smallest public institution of higher education in Michigan, you get the benefits of a private college — lots of personal attention, flexibility, less bureaucracy — at a public school price. Our size — nearing 3500 students — means you get to learn in small classes, 70 percent have fewer than 30 people. This environment is similar to what you’ll find at a private school. This means your professors will know your strengths and can offer advice on internships and research projects. It also means that ours is one of the safest universities you will find. The fact that we’re a public school makes Lake State a phenomenal educational value.

Most students need help to pay for college. At Lake State, 75 percent of our students receive some form of scholarship or financial aid. Lake Superior State University offers a full range of federal and state grants, workstudy opportunities and loans, as well as generous scholarships based on academic achievement, financial need or both.

Lake State Delivers a strong general education taught by faculty — not teaching assistants — where you will acquire an educational framework from which to build a lifetime of learning. Personal attention from faculty and staff who are real and authentic, which results in mentoring relationships, intellectual growth and connections. Real-world experiences. Through internships, class projects, senior projects, student activities and study trips, you will learn by doing, building a powerful resume at the same time. Proof of this success is witnessed by the fact that our nursing and robotics students achieve nearly 100% placement after college.
