Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to take the classes I've been placed in?
A: Yes. The courses you've been placed in are
either courses required for graduation, prerequisites for required courses,
or courses needed to meet LSSU's proficiency requirements.
Q: My test scores placed me into courses below the
100-level (preparatory courses). Why must I take them?
A: Statistics suggest that students who successfully
complete preparatory courses are more likely to succeed in future courses. Furthermore,
you will not be able to take higher-level courses that require completion of
preparatory coursework until you've done so.
Q: Will the preparatory courses count?
A: While they do not count toward degree requirements,
these courses do provide financial aid eligibility as soon as you successfully
complete at least 9 credits as a full-time student and earn at least a 1.87
semester GPA in your 100-level courses. For more information on financial
aid, contact the financial aid office
at (906) 635-2678.
Q: Will taking preparatory courses set me back?
A: It depends on how many credits you must take below
the 100-level. Most students can make up their credits at some point during
their academic program. However, a student with 12-16 credits of preparatory
courses may need to complete an extra semester to meet degree requirements.
