Session Title

Course-level Planning with Tracdat

  • This session covers the basic functions needed to enter and update course assessment plans. The session will include initial login, basic program navigation, transferring course learning objectives from the syllabus to Tracdat, and establishing the measures used to assess each outcome. Consistent with the University's participation in the HLC Academy, the focus in 2012-2013 will be on migrating assessment plans for one course per faculty member per semester onto the Tracdat system, and then maintaining those plans over time.

Entering Course and Program Findings with Tracdat

  • After setting instructional goals and measuring student success, it is time to record the findings and note any changes that are indicated to improve student learning. This session leads faculty through the entry of course outcome findings, and setting action plans defining any subsequent changes. Also discussed will be how to upload related documents such as assessment tools/rubrics and evidence of student achievement. In a process parallel to the entry of course-level findings, this module addresses entering program-level findings, connecting course outcomes to higher level program and institutional outcomes, and the use of Data Tools. In addition this session will review the options for printing completed program-level assessment reports.

Program-level Assessment Planning with Tracdat

  • Program-level planning, similary to course-level planning, leads participants through the process of defining, entering and measuring student learning in the higher-level goals which the program has established. Typically these goals are supported by course-level outcomes, but cross multiple courses and are often assessed using measures external to a specific course. This session will focus on linking program outcomes to course outcomes, creation of curriculum maps, and printing reports to summarize the planning process

Data tools in Tracdat

  • Collecting evidence of student achievement can be facilitated using tools available in Tracdat. The basic survey tool provides a convenient and accessible tool withing the system you are already using. The more powerful matrix-based system in Tracdat allows users to define their own rubrics including column definitions, allowable responses and response ranges, drop menus and custom reports - which can then be used and re-used with one or many different target groups. This tool allows multiple faculty to assess a given group of students, a given project, or set of program outcomes. Multiple faculty can also assess and evaluate a group of students against pre-established rubrics.

  • This session will focus on development of course and program outcomes which are SMART. Course outcomes are in place for courses, and contained on the course syllabi, this session will focus on refining and strengthening those outcomes, and focusing on stating learning goals which are measureable and effective in increasing student achievement.
