In the mid-1880's 10,000 homeless children prowled the streets of New York
City in search of money, food and shelter. This program recounts the efforts
of a young theology student, Charles Loring Brace, who organized an
ambitious rescue program in 1853 to "get these children out of their
surroundings and to send them away to kind Christian homes in the country.
