What happens when patients are given responsibility for making decisions
about their health care? This program looks at the ways in which this is
happening, from interactaive computer dialogues to CD-ROM family health
compendia to consultations with physicians via television. It shows that
different areas of the county have different rates of surgery based on
patterns of practice rather than on the patient's condition, talks about the
value of high technology in remote areas and how patients are willing to
give computers more information than they give their doctors, and explains
the working of a computer on-line service for patients.
