The French Revolution led to the dictatorship of Napoleon and the dreary
bureaucracies of the nineteenth century. The disillusionment of the Romantic
artists is traced through the music of Beethoven, the poetry of Byron, the
paintings of Delacroix, and the sculpture of Rodin.
