1937 Two brief years before the Nazi blitzkrieg began its roll
toward the domination of the European continent, Jean Renoir co
-wrote and directed this classic film about war, men, honor, and
illusion. Three gentlemen from the upper classes of their
respective warring nations meet in a prisoner of war camp during
World War I, the war to end all wars. One of them is their
captor, played by Erich Von Stroheim, who gives a performance e
steel. A superbly directed film, it tragecally conveull of pure steel. A superbly directed film, it tragically conveys
the futility of the sacrifice of men in order to protect a world
that is soon to be gone forever. Pierre Fresnay, Erilch Von
Stroheim, Jean Gabin.
