WHO LIVES, WHO DIES: EXAMINING INEQUITIES IN HEALTH CARE
According to this report, an estimated 37 million Americans have no health
insurance, and every year one million are denied private health care
because they can't pay for it. Such people often end up at public
facilities like Oakland's Highland Hospital, which provides care for
148,000 uninsured people. Long line are the norm at Highland, and getting
fast non-emergency treatment is nearly impossible. ;This report states
that poor children suffer greatly under this system because they're often
unable to get preventive or early-symptom care.;Also examined: the
practicality of expensive life-support equipment.
Graduate School Bound ...
"I've been accepted to Montana Tech's graduate school to pursue a master's degree in geophysical engineering. I have also accepted a full-funded graduate research assistantship to work with the Montana National Guard on developing magnetic techniques to detect unexploded ordinance. My summer internship with Geolex, a company under contract with the Guard, will study acquiring data, performing analysis, and offering interpretation on unexploded ordinance." [ more ]
