GIOTTO AND THE PRE-RENAISSANCE
He is called "one of the lights of Florentine glory." His frescoes literally
shimmer with a three-dimensional quality that is unmatched even by the
sculptors of his day. He is the undisputed master of the Florentine
painters...Giotto di Bondoni.
This motion picture documentary vibrantly records each of the
major cycles of Giotto's frescoes in superb detail, many filmed
here for the first time.
Included are his best-preserved, most renowned masterpieces at the Upper and
Lower Church of San Francesco, Assisi, the Arena Chapel in Padua, and St.
Croce in Florence. His bold innovations are sharply contrasted against the
somber Italian art of the period.
Giotto and the Pre-Renaissance conveys as never before the powerful emotion
of the great master's work. It is truly and artistic experience that cannot
be contained in any museum.
