"My two business degrees from LSSU were instrumental in preparing me to work at all levels of Edison Sault Electric (ESE), concluding with the privilege of becoming ESE President in 1998. My company also takes pride in that 14 out of a total of 17 management personnel and about 20% of hourly employees at ESE either have degrees from or have attended a substantial number of classes at LSSU. Finally, our company and employees have contributed in excess of $500,000 to various LSSU projects over the last 25 years. ESE Believes in Blue."

LSSU Banner Implementation

Welcome to the LSSU Banner Project

Conversion from the University's current SCT Plus administrative software to the SunGard SCT Banner system is underway at LSSU. A steering committee has been appointed which will guide the overall implementation of Banner. Project team leaders and work teams have been selected and are meeting regularly.

Banner implementation will occur over the next 2-3 years. Implementation will be challenging and will create additional work for many individuals and offices. However, this step forward is absolutely necessary. External support of the current Plus system will end in the next few years. Students, staff, and faculty are asking for improved reporting, increased system availability, and expanded web-based administrative and academic applications. LSSU must have up-to-date technology to meet these needs. SunGard SCT consultants will provide major assistance with the implementation.

What is the mission of the Banner Project?

The primary mission of the Banner implementation project is to fulfill Lake Superior State University 's requirements for more robust administrative systems that position LSSU to take advantage of future technologies and meet changing needs. While the current system is adequate, it does not meet all functional requirements. The mission of this project is to address those requirements, as well as the following:

  • Provide a tool to allow the institution to be even more student-centered, more effective in serving the needs of the constituents
  • Give faculty, administrators, staff, students, alumni and prospective students easy and meaningful interaction with administrative systems, as well as improved access to institutional information
  • Improve collegiality through sharing information and ideas, not only between faculty and staff, but between LSSU and other institutions
  • Allow LSSU to remain competitive by having state-of-the-art technology

The project improves LSSU 's effectiveness by enabling improved institutional practices and data access, leading to improved decision making and services to constituents. The project also helps LSSU become more progressive by allowing constituent access to information anytime and anywhere, including via the Internet. The project also positions LSSU to take advantage of future technology tools to achieve its mission.
