Investment Club
Investment Club Documents:
The Investment Club is one of many student organizations at Lake Superior State University. Since the club’s founding, students have gathered to enhance their knowledge of stock analysis, economic trends, global financial behavior, and stock portfolio management.
After a generous grant from the university, the Investment Club has been holding a portfolio of securities and cash which has seen numerous recessions and recoveries. The portfolio is purely student run and will continue to be as this presents opportunities for students to follow market data and conduct fundamental stock analysis under the advising of LSSU finance Faculty.
The club’s focus and mission is not only to learn more about stock investing, but to create and manage a portfolio that is competitive to the S&P 500 stock index. Students discuss and pick stocks which they think will outperform the S&P 500 to create a long term and sustainable portfolio for future students of Lake Superior State University.
As of 2010, the club holds a portfolio of 14 different securities. Based on a MorningStar analysis of the portfolio, the club category as a combination of Large value, core, and growth securities. Stocks owned include General Electric, Home Depot, McDonalds, Johnson & Johnson and Sirius XM Radio.
The student organization is overseen by two fantastic faculty advisors. Professor Gerald Root and Dr Christopher Brunt offer insight to what is occurring in the economic world as well as current market behavior.
The club meets on Thursday nights at 8:00 PM in Room 362 of the Shouldice Library.
It continues its tradition of being open to any and all students who are curious about stock investing. All majors welcome!
