October 5th, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM

Description: LSSU students and employees, as well as members of the public, are invited to hear two speakers being brought to campus this week for the Michigan Political Science Association annual meeting - the organization's first in the U.P. The conference's keynote speaker is Arthur Lupia Ph.D., a University of Michigan political science professor, award-winning author and one of the country's preeminent experts on elections and voting behavior. He spoke on campus in September 2008. His address, to be delivered at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Walker Cisler Center Superior Room, is titled, "The Trouble with Voters and Those Who Try to Fix Them." The conference will also host Bill Ballenger, former state representative, state senator and current editor of Inside Michigan Politics. He will present "Campaign 2012: What Will Happen in Michigan?" at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, in the Cisler Center. Ballenger, who has been called 'Michigan's undisputed crown prince of pundits," appears regularly on radio and television throughout the country. Admission is free to both presentations.
