RSVP for New Science of Learning Faculty Workshop

Description: Join your colleagues for a hands-on, practical workshop on learner-centered teaching and the brain research that supports this approach to teaching. Ferris State University Prof. Terry Doyle presents "The New Science of Learning from 6:30-9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, and from 9 a.m.-noon on Monday, Sept. 30, in the Walker Cisler Center's Michigan/Ontario rooms. During Monday's session, faculty are invited to drop in as they can. Doyle is a professor of reading at FSU, where he has worked for the past 36 years and was the senior instructor for faculty development and coordinator of the New-to-Ferris Faculty Transition Program for the FSU Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. He is in demand nationally as a speaker on teaching and learning. Read more in the announcements on MyLSSU. Shouldice Library Art Gallery presents Nine Works in Pastel

Description: LSSU adjunct art professor Heidi Finley is displaying her art in the Shouldice Library gallery. "Nine Works in Pastel," is open through September during regular library hours. Finley holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and a master of arts in studio art from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind. She works in many media, including acrylic, watercolor and oil. She has been teaching classes since 2000 and now teaches at LSSU. She will be teaching a pastel course this spring here.

Flu Shot Clinic

Description: Get your flu shot at the LSSU Health Center's flu shot clinic today. No appointment is necessary. Cost is $10 with LSSU ID, if not covered by insurance. If you have insurance, please verify with your insurance company that they will pay for the flu shot. The LSSU Health Center will not bill any insurance that is an HMO, i.e. Priority Health, HAP or Medicaid. Your insurance card and LSSU ID are required.

Michigan Center for Rural Health Forum

Description: Would you like to have a say in what health care services are available in Chippewa County for you and your family? The Michigan Center for Rural Health, in collaboration with local health care agencies, is hosting public health care forums to determine the top health care concerns and needs in our community. The goal is gain your input as we look ahead at the future of health care in our local communities. The first forum was held on Sept. 26. Join us today for the second session.

Description: The Shouldice Library invites you to Bring Your Own Device to the library instruction room and discover library resources that work on your mobile devices. Bring your iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android tablet, Android phone, Kindle, Nook, MP3, laptop -- you name it -- and see what the library has to offer. We will work with the devices you bring to get you access to the materials you care about. If you have a Bayliss Public Library card, bring it. Bayliss patrons will have access to audio books and current magazines that LSSU-only patrons won't, so if you are eligible to get a Bayliss Public Library card, do so ahead of time and bring it to this session.

Description: The Campus Life Office is looking for volunteers to help clean-up the LSSU section of I-75 that it has taken under its wing through the "Adopt-a-Highway" program. The original date was moved due to weather. If it rains this time, we'll try for Saturday, Sept. 28, at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will be provided dinner after the clean-up at the Quarterdeck. Seamore Shuttle

Description: The Seamore Shuttle is a free service provided by the LSSU Campus Life Office that takes LSSU students downtown and to places on the business spur, including Varsity Cinemas. Pick-up and drop-off is at the Walker Cisler Center. Shuttle runs from 6-10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.
