Exercise Science Guest Speaker: Prof. Cheryl Howe

Description: The School of Recreation Studies and Exercise Science is pleased to announce that Cheryl Howe Ph.D., former LSSU exercise science professor and current professor of exercise physiology at Ohio University, will be on campus today to speak with students of all majors. She will present two lectures -- at 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The 6 p.m. lecture will be particularly appealing to anyone who has an interest in research, including students who are planning to attend graduate school. In addition to teaching exercise physiology, Howe is co-director of education for the Ohio University Diabetes Institute. With more than 30 professional publications, including a book titled "Positive Performance: The essential book for serious training," Howe is a well-known and admired researcher/author in the field of exercise science. Her research interests include pediatric obesity trends, physical activity for the treatment of pediatric obesity, and free-play physical activity and measurement of free-play in children. Howe will focus on pediatric obesity during her 12:30 p.m. lecture, and on free-play activity and research activities during the 6 p.m. lecture.
