The purpose of the Lake Superior State University Volunteer Center is to promote civic engagement in the LSSU and larger communities through volunteer and service opportunities. One of our primary goals is to weave the spirit of service into the fabric of Lake Superior State University. We do this by providing ongoing programs like the Michigan Service Scholars, by informing the student body about episodic volunteer opportunities for those who want to make a big difference in a short amount of time, and by connecting students like you to community organizations that match best your skills and interests.
That all sounds good, right? But, what does volunteering do for you?
- You gain valuable work experience!
- You build new skills and get better at old ones!
- You meet new people and make new friends!
- Best of all, you know that YOU are the vehicle for social change!
The LSSU Volunteer Center was formally established in 2006, as a satellite office from the United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Through our partnership with the United Way, the Volunteer Center is growing by leaps and bounds. All students, faculty, and staff are invited (and encouraged) to use the resources of the Volunteer Center.
