Student Assembly Branches

The Student Assembly at Lake Superior State University is comprised of all students at Lake Superior State University.  There are seven branches of the Assembly, each with their own purpose.  The following is a description of each branch.

Activities Board

  • The Activities Board is in charge of planning campus events, such as concerts, comedians, Laker Week, Winter Carnival, Laker Luau, and any other fun events you can think of! 
  • Activities Board is open to all students and is always looking for new help and ideas.

Inter-Greek Council

  • Inter-Greek Council (IGC) is the governing board for all LSSU social fraternities and sororities. 
  • Board positions are elected from within the membership of the Greek system.

Judiciary Board

  • Judiciary Board is composed of five student justices that are appointed by Student Government to deal with any conflicts within the student assembly.

Presidents' Council

  • Presidents’ Council is the student governance board responsible for funding student organizations and encouraging collaboration and cooperation among groups. 
  • This board is comprised of presidents (or representatives) of every recognized club at LSSU.

Student Government

  • Student Government is an open forum for all students. 
  • The board is comprised of 17 members – one president, four secretaries, and twelve representatives, all of whom are elected by the general student body, as well as an Operational Manager who is appointed by the President. 
  • Elections for representatives are held during the fourth week in the fall.

The Compass

  • The Compass is Lake Superior State University’s student-run newspaper. 
  • Distributed each week during the academic year, The Compass is written, edited, and produced by students.

WLSO

  • WLSO is our campus radio station and is operated by LSSU students. 
  • The staff consists of two station managers, personnel directors, technical staff, and DJs. 
  • Any student interested in broadcasting or hosting their own radio show is encouraged to work with WLSO.
