Fire Science at Lansing Community College

Program of Study
This program is designed as a bachelor of science degree option for students who have completed or are completing an associate degree in Fire Science through Lansing Community College. Any student who has earned an associate degree in Applied Science in Fire Science Technology at Lansing Community College may transfer the identified credits towards a Bachelor’s of Science in Fire Science at Lake Superior State University. All Lake Superior State University courses will be offered at the Lansing Community College campus. A minimum of 124 semester hours must be completed for graduation with at least 32 hours from Lake Superior State University to fulfill residency requirements.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to this program you must have an associate degree (or be working toward one) and have completed 64 hours from an accredited college or university. Transfer students must possess a 2.0 cumulative college GPA and be eligible to return to your former college(s). You will need to submit official
transcripts from all accredited colleges/universities with your application.

Graduation Requirements
A minimum of 124 credits is required for a bachelor’s degree. At least eight semester credits, in addition to courses used for general education requirements, from categories of social science, natural science or mathematics.

LSSU's dedicated three-story fire lab made all the difference to Brian Applegate.

"Our certification training classes offered real situations," Brian says. Students practice victim search techniques while controlling and extinguishing fires. Applegate says his favorite exercise was the live fire flashover simulation. "We saw how fires evolved as they burned," he says. "It’s as close as you can get to the real thing."
