A Focus on High-need Areas

The Lake Superior State University School of Education is committed to preparing high quality teachers in high-needs areas, including STEM fields (science, technology, and mathematics) and Early Childhood and Special Education. (degree audits prior to Spring 2012).

The table below provides the degree audits for the current programs - the most recent program is listed first in each box. Archived degree audits for programs that were in effect prior to Spring 2012 are found here.

Audits for Teacher Certification

Program Code

Elementary candidates must complete either one approved teaching major or complete the elementary education major with two approved teaching minors audits

Secondary candidates must complete an approved major AND an approved minor program*

Chemistry DC  

Students admitted for the Fall 2013 and later must use the NEW chemistry secondary teaching audit for the MAJOR or the minor. .PDF format

Students admitted 8/2012-12/2012 could use the chemistry teaching major, chemistry teaching minor but we recommend the newer version. See your adviser.

Students admitted Fall 2009 through Spring 2012 use the chemistry secondary teaching major .PDF format; and chemistry minor .PDF format

Computer Science NR   Computer Science teaching minor

Elementary Education with Language Arts and Mathematics Concentration

 

Students admitted for Fall 2014 or later must use the elementary education major .PDF format with a concentration in Language Arts and Mathematics.

Students admitted for the Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 may use this elementary educationMAJOR .PDF format audit, but you will need two minor audit sheets also.

Students admitted 8/2009 through 12/2012 could use the Elementary Education Teaching Major - this option requires BOTH minors below: Note that the new elementary standards are now in place and the program requirements of the NEW program better reflect the content on which you will be tested. Language Arts BX

Students admitted for the Fall 2014 or later must use the NEW elementary language arts audit for the MAJOR .PDF format. Mathematics EX

Physical Science DP  

Students admitted for the Fall 2013 or later must use the NEW physical science secondary teaching audit for the Group MAJOR .PDF format which requires a minor, or the Comprehensive MAJOR .PDF format that does not require an additional minor.

Students admitted 8/2012-12/2012 use the Physical Science secondary teaching comprehensive major or group major that requires a minor

Students admitted 8/2009 through 5/2012 use the Physical Science secondary-level teaching major audits a) showing both group and comprehensive option .PDF format b) showing only the group option which requires a minor .PDF format

Special Education (Learning Disabilities) SM

Students admitted for Fall 2013 or later must use the NEW elementary special education audit for the Elementary Special Education Learning Disabilities .PDF format.

Students admitted 8/2011through 12/2012 use the Elementary Special Education major.PDF format with focus on Learning Disabilities. A teachable minor is required - attach a separate audit from either language arts or math.

 

 

Audits for Early Childhood (without Teacher Certification)

The Early Childhood Education majors often can work as assistant and lead teachers in preschools, directors of child care facilities, child care specialists, or other related roles. Early Childhood Education majors are not certified to work in k - 12 public or charter schools, or similar programs.

Students admitted for Fall 2014 or later must use the NEW early childhood education program audits

Students admitted prior to Fall 2014 may use the following degree audits to complete their programs, however, we recommend the Fall 2014 if feasible. Work with your advisor to identify the appropriate version and necessary substitutions.
