A Focus on High-need Areas
The Lake Superior State University School of Education is shifting our focus, and committing our resources, to preparing high quality teachers in high-needs areas. Specifically, we will focus on preparing new certified teachers in the critically important STEM fields (science technology, mathematics and science) and Early/Special Education. Current students (those having completed EDUC150 by the end of Spring 2012) may continue in their declared teaching majors and minors as planned (degree audits prior to Spring 2012).
The table below provides the degree audits for the current programs - the most recent program is listed first in each box.

Students admitted for the Fall 2013 and later must use the NEW chemistry secondary teaching audit for the MAJOR or the minor.

Students admitted 8/2009 through 12/2012 were able to use the Elementary Education Teaching Major - this option requires BOTH minors below: Note that the new elementary standards are now in place and the program requirements of the NEW program better reflect the content on which you will be tested. Students admitted 8/2011through 12/2012 use the Elementary Special Education major with focus on Learning Disabilities. A teachable minor is required - attach a separate audit from either language arts or math. |

Audits for Early Childhood (Non-certified)
The Early Childhood Education majors often can work as directors of child care facilities, child care specialists, or other related roles. Early Childhood Education majors are not certified to work in public or charter schools, Head-Start or similar programs.
