The Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) is comprised of engineering professionals who actively participate in the development and promotion of Lake Superior State University's engineering and engineering technology programs, faculty members and students.

News

Minutes for the Spring 08 meeting held at the LSSU campus are now available for download. The MACRAO nights can be viewed by clicking on the MACRAO icon at right. There is a link that provides a color PDF of the MACRAO regions. See if there are any high school MACRAO nights color-coded for your area. If so, and you are available to help out, contact IAB member Chris Conklin.

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of recent member, Dick VandeVusse of VanAire Inc. in Gladstone. He was known to our staff and faculty having sponsored one of our graduates and providing him with an opportunity to expand his education and the leeway as an employee to develop a robotic solution to a production issue (see Gantry Robot article) <http://www.lssu.edu/eng/news/F07NewsletterWeb.pdf>, which seems to be typical of Dick's dedication to the education of youth as noted in the Escanaba Daily Press in an article about Dick as well as his obituary <http://www.dailypress.net>.

A contribution is being made on behalf of the IAB to a building fund in lieu of flowers per the request of Dick's family. The attached funeral announcement was received from VanAire, Inc. Congratulations to our retirees: Bob Andersen and Chris Conklin. Even though Bob may no longer be in the office at Continental Automotive, but he manages to keep busy with multiple hobbies and interests. Chris is leaving Dow Corning and plans on being the ultimate grandfather and possibly hitting the woods for partridge.

They'll both still be familiar faces at IAB activities and MACRAO events.

Role Statement & Expectations

IAB Role Statement:

IAB members guide, nurture and assure that the School of Engineering and Technology produces engineers with skills that will not only fulfill today's industrial needs, but will foresee the requirements of tomorrow in a global economy. IAB members provide a "real time" interface with both faculty members and students bringing today's industrial technology to LSSU "today." 

IAB members are expected to:

• Evaluate and critique engineering programs by providing professional experience and direction.
• Be able to provide technical support such as; teaching materials, information on equipment, donation of equipment, funding.
• Promote LSSU engineering curriculum to young people by participating in regional recruitment seminars and invite students for industrial tours.
• Attend Industrial Advisory Board meetings.
• Support the senior project program with ideas or equipment and/or materials.
• Encourage professional development of the faculty by providing summer employment and spnsoring sabbaticals.
• Provide assistance with job placement for students both full-time and summer internships.
• Participate on subcommittees.
• Vote during IAB meetings on issues relative to the Role Statement.
