SENIOR DIVISION [National Challenge]:
Assemble a hamburger consisting of no less than:
one precooked meat patty, two vegetables and two condiments, sandwiched between two bun halves using a minimum of 20 steps (energy changes).

JUNIOR DIVISION : In
a minimum of 10 steps, place a precooked meat patty on top of a bun half.

Rube Goldberg Machine Competition: Congratulations go to East Jordan, Mackinaw City and Petoskey!
[Points were based on a possible total of 100]
1st Place: East Jordan's Bubba's Burgers with 97 points
2nd Place: Mackinaw City's Swords & Sprockets with 83 points
3rd Place: Petoskey's Candy Shop only 1 point behind...with 82 points
4th Place: East Jordan's Game Weavers with 75 points
Placing 5th was Mackinaw City's "Life on a Farm" at 70 points
Petoskey's "Rube's Room" placed 6th and "Swiss Family Robinson" took 7th with 68 and 65 points respectively.
Sault Area High School's "Play1inators" had 53 points for 8th and the "Hamburglars" were right behind with 52 points in 9th.
Bubba's Burgers and Swords & Sprockets have been entered into the 2008 National Rube Goldberg Machine High School Competiton to be held on April 6 at the University of Purdue. Good Luck!

Mousetrap Race Cars
This year's races were dominated by Sault Area High School. A total of six cars competed, but only two qualified by traveling a minimum of 25 feet.
Kaitlyn Storey of Speed Demons took first in speed, crossing 25 ft in 3.1 seconds and in distance traveling 43 ft. 10 inches. Kaitlyn took home the overall champion trophy for her combined scores as well as medals for speed and distance. The members of Joogagadada, Chris Coullard and Kyle McGahey, placed second in both speed [4.5 seconds] and distance 31 ft. 4 inches].
[Please note our new date in order to resolve scheduling conflict with statewide Michigan high school testing] Once again, we will be hosting Engineering Day including
spontaneous design activities, mouse trap car races and
a Rube Goldberg machine competition. There will be two divisions of
the machine competition: Senior for high schools and Junior

New this year: Two levels of registration for the Rube Goldberg machine competition.
- Official competitors: Those who wish to register as an official Rube Goldberg team and be eligible to move on to the National Competition at the University of Purdue on April 6, 2008, please download the official from at www.rubegolberg.com. We have waived $200 of the $300 fee. The entire fee has been waived for the first 3 teams to register through the Rube Goldberg organization. Submit your registration and team fee of $100 made payable to Rube Goldberg Inc. as noted on the on the form. The competition will include both official and unofficial entries. However, only those who have paid the fee will be eligible to continue to the national level.
Even if you are an official Rube Goldberg competitor, you can still register to participate in the other activities during engineering day. Please submit the LSSU Engineering Day registration form.
- Unofficial competitors: Your team(s) will be part of the field of machine competitors following the same rules, regulations and restrictions as the official entries. However, there is no fee to participate and your team(s) will not be eligible to go on to the national competition, even if your team takes first place. To register your school's team(s), please submit an LSSU Engineering Day registration form.
Competition will be held in the Walker Cisler Center on
the campus of Lake Superior State University. Doors will
open at 8 a.m. for set-up. Competition begins at 9 a.m. Be sure to bring protection for the table tops/floor. We had several tables permanently damaged last year and a great deal of puddling from water. If a team is determined to have cause permanent damage, it may be responsible for replacement of the damaged item.
Senior Division teams are limited to three per school and a maximum of 12 "official"
members per team, of which only two may come into contact
with the machine during competiton. Machines will be operated on a supplied table surface approx. 27 inches high to accommodate the presentation of the machine. A traveling trophy is awarded to the first place team. Ribbons are awarded to first through fourth places.
Junior Division teams are also limited to three per school, 12 members per
team of which only two may come into contact with the machine
during competition. Machines will be operated on the floor Ribbons and certificates are awarded
for first through fourth place and a trophy for first.
Mouse trap car teams are limited to two members. At this time, there is no limit
to the number of teams. Ribbons are awarded to first through
fourth for speed and distance, and a trophy to the combined
first place winner.
