
Continuing Education
Taught Continuing Education classes for over ten years; designed numerous classes for general
audiences and for career development through direct corporate training; served as consultant
to IUS's Continuing Education Department (created needs analysis survey for large area hospital,
designed courses for area businesses, participated in contract negotiations with area businesses
for specialized training courses, other duties); performed doctorate internship in Continuing
Education Department at IUS; dissertation compared the non-traditional degree program in
Continuing Education at IUS with the traditional degree program of IUS. Course work leading to
doctorate specialized in adult learners, adult training, and human resources.
Technical Skills
Systems Analyst/Project Manager
Systems analyst for 2 years (SCT) and served as systems analyst/consultant for eight years at TVA;
designed and developed customized systems for Keyser Tire Company, General Physics Corp,
King Pharmacy, Career Quest, and others (as consultant); taught project management skills to
TVA staff (as consultant).
Database
Proficient in DB2 and SQL/DS; Database administrator for one year (SCT); taught database
classes at college level for over 12 years (CSTCC and UofL) and at the corporate level
for 3 years; was technical expert in DB2 at Provident; wrote three database books
(published by major publishers); database consultant for several Louisville companies.
Systems programming
Systems administrator for UofL's 9370 mainframe for three years; maintained operating system
(VM/CMS); loaded put tapes, created user accounts, administered the network access to the
system, was SYSADM to its SQL/DS database, performed other systems functions as needed.
Other PC skills
Proficient in spreadsheets (Lotus, Excel, and Quatro Pro), word processors (Wordperfect, Word),
and databases (Paradox, Access, Oracle, others). Taught in 1) credit course offerings at
UofL, 2) non-credit course offerings in Continuing Education, and 3) training classes for
area companies.
Languages
Visual Basic:Proficient in Visual Basic; performed system development using VB;
integrated VB with Microsoft Office; prototyped applications system using Access and VB.
C/C++:Proficient in C and C++on both PC and VAX platforms.
COBOL:Proficient in COBOL; was professional programmer/analyst for 2 years, linked
FORTRAN and Assembler programs to COBOL (at SCT, Inc.); programmed in TSO, IMS, and
DB2 environments (TVA and Provident); taught COBOL and advanced COBOL at college level
for over 20 years (UTC, CSTCC, and UofL); taught COBOL at corporate level for three
years (Provident); taught Telon (a 4GL COBOL generator) at Provident for three years.
Fortran:Proficient in Fortran; wrote programs as professional programmer for three years
(SCT, Inc.) and as consultant for eight years (TVA); taught Fortran at college level for 13 years
(UTC and CSTCC); taught Advanced Fortran Algorithms for five years at CSTCC.
Assembler:Proficient in IBM assembler; wrote assembler subroutines linked by COBOL and
Fortran programs at SCT as programmer/analyst; taught IBM assembler at college level for over
18 years (UTC, CSTCC, and UofL).
Development tools:Proficient in Windows NT, Windows 95, SQL Server, Office; use
client-server development tools to create application systems utilizing multiple platforms.
Mathematics:Taught pre-calculus, calculus I/II, math for teachers, finite math, statistics, college algebra, numerical analysis, and discrete math-- at UTC (1966-1972) and part-time at CSTCC (1973-1976).
