Round Whitefish

I am currently working on a project examining the status and recovery of round whitefish (Prosopium cylindraceum). This research is being conducted with Clifford Kraft, Cornell University's Adirondack Fisheries Research Program, and the New York State Department of Conservation. Round whitefish, known locally as "frostfish," were once found in over 80 Adirondack lakes. Today, they are endemic to only six New York lakes and are a state endangered species. My goals are to identify the reason for the decline and to suggest a management plan for round whitefish restoration.

Most recently, we have begun a study on the genetic diversity of round whitefish.  Dr. Nancy Kirkpatrick and I are looking for two LSSU undergraduates to conduct their senior thesis projects on:

    1) Genetic diversity of round whitefish in North

        America

    2) Round whitefish morphologic differences
