OCCUPATIONAL
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Participation
in the occupational health and safety program is required of all persons having
ten (10) or more hours per week of contact with vertebrate species. Eligible
personnel will be identified by Principal Investigators at the time of proposal
submission. The health program consists of a medical questionnaire including
a history of allergic reactions and immunizations, as recommended, against tetanus
and rabies. This program will be coordinated by the University Health
Care Center.

The responsibility
for informing personnel about occupational hazards, protection against
hazards, and the relationship between personal hygiene and health, rests
with the Principal
Investigator. The IACUC is available to provide training and education
when required. The PI must inform the IACUC and involved personnel of any
possible exposure to hazardous biological, chemical, or physical agents and monitor
personnel exposure when informed that potential hazards exists. The PI
must provide protective devices and clothing as required. Use of
protective clothing/equipment is recommended for all persons working
with animals.
