Summer 2010 Federal Pell Grant Awarding Policy

All summer Federal Pell Grant eligibility will be based on the 2009-2010 FAFSA.  Students will fall into one of two categories for awarding summer semester Pell Grant:

  • Students that attended full-time for two semesters and received 100% of their scheduled Federal Pell Grant award.
  • Students that attended part-time and received less than 100% of their scheduled Federal Pell Grant award for the academic year, including summer 2009 if funds were received.

Students that attended full-time for two semesters:

If a student attended full-time (12 credits or more) for two semesters and/or received 100% of their scheduled Federal Pell Grant during the summer 2009, fall 2009, and/or spring 2010 semesters, the award for summer 2010 requires that the student must:

  • Qualify for a Federal Pell Grant based on the 2009-2010 FAFSA
    and
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards at the end of the spring 2010 semester
    and
  • Enroll in at least 6 credits or more for summer 2010 semester. *

*For Summer Semester 2010, if the student is enrolled for less than six credits in the first session but meets the six credit minimum in the second six week session, the Federal Pell Grant (and any remaining Federal Loans) will be DELAYED until the second six week session.  If the student drops courses to fall below the six credit minimum necessary for the funds, no federal funds will be disbursed and the award will be canceled.

The second scheduled Pell Grant award will count towards life-time aggregate limits, if applicable (students receiving their first Pell Grant on or after July 1, 2008).

Student that attended part-time:

If a student attended part-time (less than 12 attempted credits) at least one semester during the academic year and received less than 100% of their scheduled Pell Grant, the award for summer 2010 requires that the student must:

  • Qualify for a Federal Pell Grant based on the 2009-2010 FAFSA
    and
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards at the end of the spring 2010 semester
    and
  • Enroll in at least 1 credit or more*.

* If the student is enrolled in less than 6 credits, the student can only receive the remainder of the scheduled Federal Pell Grant award for the academic year.  For example, the student was enrolled in 22 credits during the fall/spring semesters and enrolls in four credits for the summer semester.  The student will only receive a Federal Pell Grant based on two credits.  However, if the student is enrolled in 6 or more credits, the student may receive a Federal Pell Grant based on the total number of credits.
