Financial Aid Office

Scholarship Sign-up for LSSU Students

Scholarship sign-up is now open through the Financial Aid Office through Feb. 23, 2012. Winners will be announced by Feb. 27, 2012.

These scholarships are intended to recognize undergraduate students who did not win an award upon entering LSSU or to upgrade LSSU scholarships for those students who have performed well after at least one year (26 credits earned) of LSSU study but not more than 124 credits. Students with other LSSU scholarships may “upgrade” to a scholarship with higher value but generally may not combine scholarships, unless their current LSSU scholarship is $1,000 or less per year.

The applicant with the highest cumulative GPA who meets all of the qualifications will receive an offer of scholarship. Students must accept their awards and submit thank you letters to the donors within 30 days to receive funds.

DEADLINE: February 23, 2012

*To be considered a RETURNING student (also known as a current student), must have earned at least 26 LSSU credits, but not more than 124 (including transfer credits) at LSSU (by the end of Fall Semester, 2011)

  • NEW and TRANSFER student eligibility review will include high school GPA, ACT/SAT Scores and prior college GPA and will be contingent upon successful completion of fall semester 2011.
  • Full-time enrollment is required for these scholarships;  exceptions noted on individual descriptions.
  • Students who are currently attending without any LSSU scholarships will be given first consideration for all awards less than $1000.
  • Scholarships of $1000 or greater value per year may replace a current LSSU scholarship of lesser value.  In some cases, the new scholarship may be awarded in addition to a current LSSU scholarship. Determination will be made on a case-by-case basis upon review by the director.
  • LSSU policy prohibits the award of LSSU scholarship funds beyond the cost of tuition, except for Room and Board specific scholarships.   Note:  Current tuition-specific aid may be reduced or cause some other adjustments to your aid package, based on the requirements of each form of aid.
  • Full tuition scholarships are awarded for 12-17 credits per semester and do NOT include any special course fees, program fees, media fees or any related fees.  Full tuition scholarships can not be awarded to students who receive waivers of tuition.
  • Renewable scholarships will not exceed four years or 124 earned credits. Students must maintain full time status to continue a renewable scholarship, while meeting renewal criteria.
  • Scholarships offered to students only in specific majors will be withdrawn if the student changes majors or fails to earn credits toward the appropriate major.
  • A written Thank You Letter to the donor is required for all recipients.
