Scholarship Sign-up for current students in programs in Biology.

These scholarships are open to LSSU students in programs in Biology.

These scholarships are intended to recognize undergraduate students who did not win an award upon entering LSSU or to upgrade LSSU scholarships for those students who have performed well after at least one year (26 credits earned) of LSSU study but not more than 124 credits. Students with other LSSU scholarships may “upgrade” to a scholarship with higher value but generally may not combine scholarships, unless their current LSSU scholarship is $1,000 or less per year.

Scholarships - Awarded for Fall 2015

Timothy A. Farmer Science Scholarship

 

  • Value: Award one for $1200 for 2015-16
  • Must be majoring in Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Ev. Science, or Geology
  • Must have earned at least 26 university credits with 3.0 GPA or higher

Joseph and Bonnie Halvorsen Memorial Endowment

 

  • Value: Award one for $1200 for 2015-16
  • Must be be a student majoring in Parks & Recreation, Natural Resources Technology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology or Fisheries & Wildlife Management
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 with 26 LSSU credits
  • Preference to students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the Michigan State Park System or National Park Service System
  • Financial need may be a consideration

Dr. Kevin & Pamela Cooper Professional Scholarship
  • Value: one for $1,200
  • Must have earned at least 26 LSSU credits and is enrolled in the LSSU pre-dentistry program.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Preference will be given to students who are graduates of a Michigan Upper Peninsula high school.
  • If there is no eligible pre-dentistry student, then a student who is majoring in pre-medicine to become a medical physician will be considered.
  • If there is no eligible pre-dentistry or pre-medicine student, then a student who is majoring in a biological sciences program will be considered.

Dr. Arthur Duwe Memorial Scholarship

  • Value: up to two for $1,000 — non-renewable
  • Merit based
  • May be a Michigan resident or nonresident
  • Enrolled full time
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Curriculum: awarded in the spring of his/her junior year to a medical laboratory science student for his/her year of internship.
  • If a qualified medical lab science student is not available, the award may be given to a senior in any program in the School of Biological Sciences.
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences.

Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited Fisheries Scholarship

 

  • Value: $500 — non-renewable
  • Merit based
  • Senior status
  • Resident of Michigan
  • Preference given to students from the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited service area (Otsego, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Alpena and Montmorency counties)
  • Curriculum: fisheries and wildlife with focus on fisheries
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences based on application materials submitted

Wendy J. Sak Memorial Fisheries & Wildlife Award

 

  • Value: $500 — non-renewable
  • Must be a full time student of at least sophomore status
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be an active LSSU Fisheries & Wildlife Club member
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences
  • Cover letter stating why you are interested in the scholarship and current resume required.

Izaak Walton League of America Lock City Chapter Endowed Scholarship

 

  • Value: one for $800 — non-renewable
  • Must have demonstrated financial need (2013-14 or 2014-15 FAFSA must be on file)
  • Must be Sault High Graduate, if no high school senior is available can be awarded to LSSU sophomore or higher.
  • Preference to Sault Ste Marie Students.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Management (Biology major may be selected if no Fisheries or Wildlife student qualify)
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences
  • Cover letter stating why you are interested in the scholarship and current resume required.

Christopher W. Reinke Endowment Award

 

  • Value: up to two at $900 each — non-renewable
  • Merit and need based
  • Sophomore status only
  • GPA between 2.0 and 3.0
  • Interest and dedication in the natural resources technology field
  • Curriculum: natural resources technology
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Biological Sciences

Edward & Jill Smith Scholarship

 

  • Value: $500 — non-renewable
  • One award to student with Junior status (may be renewable for SENIOR YEAR)
  • Must have at least 56 earned LSSU credits, Pre-med program students only
  • Preference to students graduating from MI high school
  • Selected by: School of Biological Sciences

Anglers of the Au Sable Fisheries Scholarship

 

  • Value: $1,200 — non-renewable
  • Must be a full-time student of senior status majoring in the Fisheries and Wildlife Management program, with a focus on fisheries
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be a a resident of State of Michigan
  • Selected by: School of Biological Sciences
