Scholarship Sign-up for Current LSSU NURSING Students

These scholarships are open to LSSU NURSING students.

These scholarships are intended to recognize undergraduate students who did not win an award upon entering LSSU or to upgrade LSSU scholarships for those students who have performed well after at least one year (26 credits earned) of LSSU study but not more than 124 credits. Students with other LSSU scholarships may “upgrade” to a scholarship with higher value but generally may not combine scholarships, unless their current LSSU scholarship is $1,000 or less per year.

NOTE: You must have applied and been officially accepted into the nursing program in order to be eligible for the nursing scholarships listed on this page.  Please indicate which course you are currently enrolled in using the following drop down menu.  If you are NOT enrolled in one of the following then you are not eligible for any scholarships on this site.  Please return to the main financial aid scholarship page to determine eligibility for non-nursing awards.

BSN Scholarships - Awarded Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Cunningham Nursing Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY

  • Value: $1000
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016
  • Full-time nursing student
  • Sophomore or junior status
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Preference to student with demonstrated financial need
  • Must submit a 500 word essay demonstrating passion and dedication to the nursing field (use space at bottom of form).
  • Selected by: Recommendation of the School of Nursing

Vivian M. Day Endowed Nursing Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: one for $850 – non-renewable
  • Full-time nursing student
  • Merit based – minimum GPA 3.0
  • Earned at least 26 LSSU credits
  • Demonstrated leadership/dedication to the profession
  • Graduated from a UP High School
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Tempie Dubow Memorial Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: one for $1800 or two for $900– non-renewable
  • At least sophomore status
  • Merit based: minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Local applicants receive top consideration
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Chippewa County / War Memorial Hospital Auxilary Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY

  • Value: up to four for $500 or two for $1,000— non-renewable
  • Merit based.
  • Full-time nursing student.
  • sophomore or junior status.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Graduated from a Chippewa County high school. If there is no qualifying candidate, a graduate from an E.U.P. high school may be considered.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Curriculum: nursing.
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Patrick and MaryAnne Shannon Nursing Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: one for $1000 – non-renewable
  • Junior status
  • Merit based: minimum GPA 3.0
  • Preference given to students interested in gerontological nursing
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

War Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Nursing Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: one for $1,000 – renewable for senior year
  • Merit based: minimum GPA 3.0
  • Must be sophomore or junior in the BSN or BSN completion program
  • Full or part-time
  • Must be from the tri-county area

  • Demonstrates the necessity of empathy with patients
  • Preference given to student with Upper Peninsula of Michigan ties, but not exclusive

Nancy Miller and Russell J. Pattison Nursing Scholarship

  • Value: $850— non-renewable
  • Must have earned at least 26 LSSU credits and be enrolled in the nursing program
  • Preference given to students pursuing a career in the public health care sector
  • Preference given to students who are graduates of a Michigan Upper Peninsula high school
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Nursing

TenEyck-Gulliver Nursing Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: one for $1000 – renewable
  • Must be at least a sophomore nursing student
  • At least 26 credits earned
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Resident of Michigan
  • Financial need will be a consideration
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Mackinac Straits Oncology Scholarship
  • BSN STUDENTS ONLY

  • Value: $250
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016
  • Full-time nursing student
  • Must be a senior in the LSSU baccalaureate nursing program
  • Has earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Preference is given to a student with interest in oncology nursing
  • May be awarded to a junior if the student will be of senior class status in the scholarship award year

BSN COMPLETION and Second Degree Seeking Nursing Students ONLY - Awarded Fall 2015/Spring 2016

Dixie Stanley Light and Morton Light Nursing Growth Scholarship
  • BSN COMPLETION and Second Degree Seeking Nursing Students ONLY

If you have already earned an associates degree or higher, please list which degree and from which institution.

  • Value: five students up to $2000 – non-renewable
  • Must be a registered nurse from Michigan or Ontario, Canada who is admitted to the LSSU baccalaureate nursing post-licensure track OR a non-traditional student who has earned a college degree but now chooses to pursue a BSN degree.
  • This scholarship may be prorated for part-time attendance in the LSSU BSN program
  • Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement
  • This scholarship is non-renewable, but past recipients may apply
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Must submit a 500 word essay to explain their value of nursing as a service and a career (use space at bottom of form).
  • Awarded for Fall 2015/Spring 2016

LPN Scholarships - Awarded for Summer 2015 ONLY

Bud Clarke I-500 Parking Committee LPN Award
  • LPN STUDENTS ONLY
  • Value: up to $1000 — non-renewable
  • Valid for Summer 2015 ONLY
  • Criteria: minimum 2.0 GPA; must be a graduate of a Chippewa, Mackinac or Luce County high school or GED program; preference given to those with financial need
  • Curriculum: LPN program
  • Must submit a 500 word essay to explain their value of being a volunteer (use space at bottom of form).
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Nursing

Waybrant Family Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) Scholarship
  • LPN STUDENTS ONLY


  • Value: one for $1000 — non-renewable
  • Valid for Summer 2015 ONLY
  • Must be a graduate of a Chippewa, Mackinac or Luce County high school or GED program
  • Preference given to students with financial need (2013-14 FAFSA)
  • Curriculum: LPN program
  • Selected by: recommendation of the School of Nursing

Scholarship Policy and Award Guidelines:

  • To be considered a RETURNING ELIGIBLE LSSU student, you must have earned at least 26 LSSU credits, but not more than 124 (including transfer credits) at LSSU.
  • NEW and TRANSFER student eligibility review will include high school GPA, ACT/SAT Scores and prior college cumulative GPA.
  • Full-time enrollment is required for University scholarships, except as noted in donor criteria.
  • LSSU policy prohibits the award of LSSU scholarship funds beyond the cost of tuition, except for Room and Board specific scholarships. Note: Current tuition-specific aid may be reduced or cause some other adjustments to your aid package, based on the requirements of each form of aid.
  • Full tuition scholarships are awarded for 12-17 credits per semester and do NOT include any special course fees, program fees, media fees or any related fees. Full tuition scholarships can not be awarded to students who receive waivers of tuition.
  • Renewable scholarships will not exceed four years or 124 attempted credits. Students must maintain full time status to continue a renewable scholarship, while meeting scholarship renewal criteria.
  • Scholarships offered to students only in specific majors will be withdrawn if the student changes majors or fails to earn credits toward the appropriate major.

  • A written Thank You Letter to the donor is required for all recipients.
  • Recipients may be invited to special donor “thank you” events or to participate in publicity for the scholarship or award received. Your cooperation is appreciated.
