Four new scholarships established at Lake Superior State University in recent weeks will benefit students in a variety of fields, including engineering, biology and pre-professional programs. The new offerings include the first LSSU scholarship for students studying language. The scholarships were established through families of Edeltraute Vialpando, Sven Heikkinen, Carl and Bernitta Burtt, and Viggo Thomsen. The Edeltraute L. Vialpando Memorial Scholarship was started in memory of Prof. Vialpando, an LSSU Distinguished Teaching Award recipient who taught foreign languages at LSSU from 1967-1988. Full

The Lake Superior State University Foundation was founded in 1983 and makes its home at the Lukenda Alumni House, one of the original Fort Brady Row Houses at the eastern end of campus. The Foundation oversees a vast amount of scholarship activities, events and other philanthropic activities to help educate the public on various ways to give to Lake Superior State University.
