Example: Arfstrom Donation to Create Two Scholarships
Robert and Bonnie Arfstrom, longtime Sault residents and supporters of Lake Superior State University, have made a point of remembering LSSU in setting up their estate plan. Through their generous estate gift, the Arfstroms will continue to fund the Arfstrom/Fyvie Endowed Scholarship in memory of their parents, as well as establish a second scholarship, which is yet to be named.
"When we first moved to the Sault in 1971 we immediately got involved with the University and felt very fortunate to be involved with Lake State,” said Bob. Both he and Bonnie are strong advocates of education, and strong supporters of athletics at both the high school and collegiate level. In fact, Bob was the first president of Laker Club at LSSU back in the 70s. He has also served on the Board of Trustees and the LSSU Foundation Board. He was named LSSU Citizen of the Year in 1994. Bob has also served as chairman of the Gem of the North project, in which the Norris Center Ice Arena – now known as the Taffy Abel Arena – was updated and expanded.
"We are truly blessed as a community to have a University in our midst,” said Bob. "LSSU is the life-blood of our region and provides opportunities for our citizens from education to culture to athletics.”

Their continued support has made many things possible for the students of LSSU, and we're honored that they've chosen to remember us in their estate plan.”
By choosing to make LSSU part of their estate plan, the Arfstroms join a group of esteemed individuals who are the founding members of the LSSU Superior Legacy Society. The society recognizes those who have provided for the University in their estate plan through bequests, trusts or an insurance policy. The Lake Superior State University Foundation was founded in 1983 and makes its home at the Lukenda Alumni House, one of the original Fort Brady Row Houses at the eastern end of campus. The Foundation oversees a vast amount of scholarship activities, events and other philanthropic activities to help educate the public on various ways to give to Lake Superior State University.
