Marci graduated from White Pines Collegiate and Vocational School in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and has been active during her time at LSSU in the Chemistry and Environmental Club, Investment Club, Pre-Professional Society, Honors Society, Alpha Chi Sorority, Learning Center, a member of the American Water Works Association and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, and is a volunteer at Pathways Retirement Home. While at LSSU, she has worked at the Learning Center as a tutor and supplemental instructor, learning her advanced tutoring certification and winning the Margaret Hagg Memorial Scholarship. She was a recipient of the Ontario Honors Scholarship for four years. Marci completed her senior research by standardizing a method to fluorescently detect pharmaceuticals and personal care products in drinking water. This study helped to prepare her for her graduate studies at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi to conduct biodiesel research with Dr. Paul Zimba. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Chemistry and Chemistry, magna cum laude, with minors in Economics and Mathematics, graduating as part of the Honors Society.

Individual and Corporate Sponsorships of particular donor recognition or fundraising events is the difference whether these events “break even” or make these events possible.

Sponsorship recognition varies with the amount of underwriting.

Annual Event Sponsorships include:

The Bud Cooper Golf Classic
Usually held in the fall for the benefit of women's athletics

Lake State Classic
Usually held in early summer for the benefit of academic and athletic scholarships.

The President's Dinner
Usually held in early November to recognize the giving to the University as the premier recognition event.

The Scholarship Donor Recognition Dinner
Usually held in conjunction with Great Lake State Weekend this event recognizes the contribution of people, organizations, and companies in the establishment and on-going giving.

The Athletic Academic Dinner
A new event which could be held in the spring to recognize the academic accomplishments of athletic scholars. Athletic scholars are allowed to invite a professor to this event. This event will not be held without an individual(s) or business willing to underwrite the event.

Great Lake State Weekend
Annual Gathering of the Alumni of the University. Many opportunities to sponsor a part of this event.

Turning reed canary grass into fuel

The multi-phase project, led by biology department head Gregory Zimmerman Ph.D. with help from Justin Wilson, the project's student volunteer, is studying the potential of reed canary grass pellets as an environmentally friendly and economical heating fuel, as well as a possible economic stimulant for the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
