Lake Superior State University mathematics professor, Sherilyn Duesing, has endowed a scholarship in her mother's memory for Emmet County students continuing their education at LSSU. The Crystal L. Housding Memorial Scholarship was created during a signing ceremony in LSSU President Tony McLain's office. Housding was a lifelong resident of Alanson, Mich., who worked in the Littlefield Public Schools for many years, passed away in May 2009. She was a very independent and resourceful woman who also understood that many students require financial assistance in order to pursue their dream of a college education.
Application is open to any Emmet County high school graduate who has at least 26 LSSU credits and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate volunteer involvement and leadership skills. Financial need is not a requirement, but may be a consideration. The award is a non-renewable scholarship, however past recipients may reapply.
For more information about this or any one of the more than 100 scholarships and awards available at LSSU, call the University's Foundation Office at 906-635-2665, or run a search for “LSSU foundation scholarships” on the Web.
