Starks Scholarship
Students who sign up to study electrical or computer engineering at Lake Superior State University now have an expanded scholarship to help them along. The Floyd and Joyce Starks Memorial Scholarship earmarks a $1,200 grant each for a qualified incoming freshman and a returning student with at least 26 credits.

The scholarship is being created by Stan Starks in memory of his parents Floyd and Joyce.

The Starks were average hard-working folks who never had the opportunity to go to college. Nevertheless, they were strong believers in higher education. They were familiar with Lake Superior State and the Sault from numerous summer vacations.

They insisted that their two sons get a college education and made numerous sacrifices to make it happen. They were both very proud that their sons graduated from LSSU, and will always be remembered for their unwavering support that made the accomplishment possible.

Stan Starks, who graduated from Lake State in 1976, recently retired from Verizon as a network engineering manager and now lives in Allen, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

Floyd and Joyce Starks Memorial Scholarship applicants must be registered as full-time students majoring in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or computer engineering. Returning students must have at least 26 credits and a GPA of at least 3.0. The scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who are Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, or Wisconsin residents.

Candidates can fill out an application through LSSU's School of Engineering & Technology office for consideration by a selection committee of Engineering faculty.
