Title: Head Women's Basketball Coach
Function and Responsibility
Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics to recruit, coach, and promote the operation of the Lake Superior State University Women’s Basketball program.

Duties and Responsibilities
Implement a recruiting program that is consistent with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules.

Responsible for recommending to the Director of Athletics the awarding of athletic grant-in-aid in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules.

Responsible for the development of players, team selection for game participation, and travel.

Responsible for notifying the Director of Athletics and Building Manager in a timely fashion of practice schedule so that the administration of the facility can run in an orderly fashion.

Responsible for recommending to the Director of Athletics a schedule that meets the institutional philosophy and that will be approved by the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee.

Responsible for insuring that academic scheduling is done to meet the academic needs of the student –athletes and that the student-athlete scheduling is done with the approval of the appropriate academic advisors.

Responsible for requesting housing for players through the Director of Athletics and Housing Office to insure quality living conditions for the student-athletes. Responsible for travel arrangements and lodging for the teams, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.

Responsible for advising the booster organization in compliance with rules and regulations of the institution.

Responsible for directing the assistant coach(es) in the areas of the women’s basketball program; including recommending to the Director of Athletics the hiring, firing, and performance evaluations of assistant coaches, and scheduling the travel of the assistant coach(es), in consultation with the supervisor of activity classes where there may be such responsibilities.

Responsible for presenting a budget, and working within the framework of that budget as approved by the Director of Athletics. Major areas of budgetary control include equipment purchases, travel, recruiting, telephone, consultation, guarantees, team costs during vacation periods, and rentals. Other areas include, but are not limited to, postage, printing, awards, subscriptions, advertisements, and miscellaneous items.

Responsible for the promotion of the basketball program and the athletic department.

The Head Coach is expected to follow and comply with all rules and regulations of the department and the institution as prescribed in the Procedures Manual.

Title: Head Women's Basketball Coach

The Women’s Basketball Coach will be given first choice in administering basketball camps and clinics for girls. Acceptance of such includes the organization and implementation of such events.

Any activity in areas outside of the above named will require consultation and approval by the Director of Athletics. Examples include: fund raising, hiring or staff capital campaign projects.

Other duties as determined by the Director of Athletics.

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree required and experience in college basketball coaching at the assistant or head coaching level. Thorough knowledge of institutional, NCAA and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rules, policies and regulations required.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate health and fitness to maintain long hours, busy schedule, and travel with teams, as required. Use of gross motor skills for instruction of basketball team; ability to see, hear and speak clearly, with or without aids, to represent the University in public appearances, promotional and recruiting activities; full use of hands, arms, feet and legs to perform coaching and administrative functions; ability to work with numbers to monitor budgets.
