Title: Women's Softball Coach
Function and Responsibility
Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics to coach, recruit and administer the LSSU women’s softball program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Implement a recruiting program that is consistent with institutional, conference and NCAA regulations.

Responsible for recommending to the Director of Athletics the awarding of athletic grant-in-aid in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA rules.

Responsible for the development of players, team selection for game participation and travel, in compliance with all institutional rules and regulations.

Responsible for notifying the Director of Athletics and the Norris Center Manager in a timely fashion of practice schedules so that the facility may be operated in an orderly way.

Responsible for recommending to the Director of Athletics a schedule that meets the institutional philosophy, that will be approved by the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and that meets the requirements of the conference and NCAA.

Responsible for insuring that academic scheduling is completed to meet the academic needs of the student-athletes and with the approval of the appropriate academic coordinators and advisors.

Responsible for requesting housing for players/student-athletes via the Director of Athletics and the Housing Office to insure quality living conditions for the student-athletes in compliance with the Housing regulations.

Responsible for travel arrangements and lodging for the team, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and the regulations of the institution, the conference and the NCAA.

Responsible for advising the booster organization in compliance with the rules and regulations of the institution.

Responsible for directing the assistant coach in areas pertaining to the softball program; including recommending to the Director of Athletics the hiring, firing and performance evaluation of the assistant coach, and scheduling travel of the assistant for competition and recruiting.

Responsible for presenting a budget and working within the framework of that budget as approved by the Director of Athletics. Major areas of budgetary control include equipment purchases, travel, recruiting, telephone, consultation, guarantees, team costs during vacation periods and rentals. Other areas include, but are not limited to postage, printing, awards, subscriptions, advertising and miscellaneous items.

Responsible for working with the Director of Athletics, Sports Information Director and the University’s Office of Public Relations in the promotion of the softball program and the Department of Athletics.

The Head Coach is expected to follow the rules and regulations of the University as listed in the Procedures Manual, and is expected to organize, run and account for camps and clinics held in the sport. Fundraising activities, hiring staff for clinics and camps and campaigns require the advance permission of the Director of Athletics and an appropriate Vice President.

Responsible for all practice and diamond preparation, supervising of assistant coach(es) and managers, tryouts and day-to-day operations of the office.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree preferred. Thorough knowledge and understanding of institutional, conference and NCAA rules, policies and regulations. Knowledge of recruiting in Michigan and ability to judge talent for a Division II softball program.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate health and fitness to maintain long hours, busy schedule, and travel with team, as required. Use of gross motor skills for instruction of team; ability to see, hear and speak clearly, with or without aids, to represent the University in public appearances, promotional and recruiting activities; full use of hands, arms, feet and legs to perform coaching and administrative functions; ability to work with numbers to monitor budgets.
