Function and Responsibility
The Web Master reports to the Director of Public Relations and VP for Student Life and Alumni Affairs and takes responsibility for the design and operation of the external web server,
Duties and Responsibilities
Program and manage the external web server. Ensure that the web content and design meets the diverse needs of the various University publics.

Collaboration with Information Technology department and others to implement effective use of available technology on behalf of the University and in support of the U.S. Department of Education, Title III Strengthening Institutions initiatives.

Work with IT staff to establish and enforce programming and documentation standards; practices and procedures.

Manage a small staff of students and a campus web group to accomplish the goals of Lake Superior State University and the Title III initiatives.

Stay abreast of industry best practices so that the hardware and software technology utilized in the web site is kept current and incorporates industry best practices.

Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent job related experience. Minimum three years web development and web programming experience, preferably in a higher education environment. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Strong written , oral and interpersonal communication s skills are necessary. Must have ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, supervisors, and users. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills required.

In addition, candidate must have a:
• Knowledge of various programming/scripting tools including Perl, PHP, Java/JScript, VB Script, XML;
• Knowledge of various web server environments and operating systems including Unix/Linux Apache, Microsoft IIS, Solaris/RedHat/Mandrake, Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server;
• Knowledge of content management systems and templates
• Knowledge of various network protocols and applications including TCP/IP, FTP, SSH, LDAP-based Directory Services;
• Experience with various database environments, such as MySql; and
• Experience with various web authoring tools including Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Contribute, Flash.

Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties, use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks is required.
