| Function and Responsibility |
| Under the administrative responsibility of the Associate Provost or Dean, provide the leadership in an academic department or academic school. |

| Duties and Responsibilities |
• Scheduling of courses: preparation and submission of course schedules on a timely basis; verification that faculty workloads are consistent with teaching qualifications and meet load limits and other conditions of the Agreement; coordination of scheduling with other academic units in the interests of students and the university; verification that assignment to adjunct instructors are consistent with list of adjunct instructors approved by the faculty and the associate provost or dean.
• Curriculum leadership: facilitate the development and review of curriculum by scheduling faculty meetings and preparing and forwarding necessary forms to approval bodies (e.g., department or school, curriculum committee, provost’s office, Board of Trustees, Presidents Council State Universities of Michigan); assist in the development of catalog copy, promotional materials and advising forms; assume a leadership role in assessment of teaching and learning.
• Advising and recruitment: assist in advising, recruitment and articulation activities; evaluate transfer credit; recommend course substitutions and waivers.
• Budget management: approve and manage expenditures for CSSM, equipment, and adjunct and overload salaries; prepare budget requests and presentations.
• Other duties as required by associate provost or dean.

| Qualifications |
| Appointment as a faculty member, at the rank of assistant professor or higher, in one of the disciplines in the school or department, with two or more years of service at Lake Superior State University. |

| Physical and Mental Demands |
| Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate; use of fine motor skills to operate a computer; problem solving ability; ability to work with numbers and manage a budget; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office duties; ability to travel; ability to write reports and correspond with students, parents, faculty members and alumni. |
