Title: Learning Center Supervisor, School of Nursing
Function and Responsibility
Under general supervision of, and directly accountable to the Dean of Nursing: Responsible for preparing, setting up, and disassembling instructional laboratories; maintaining and making minor repairs to equipment; organizing Nursing Learning Center clinical teaching supplies; and assuring of proper disposal of hazardous waste material.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervises overall function of the Nursing Learning Center (NLC).
2. Receives, stocks, and inventories NLC equipment and supplies. Stores equipment and supplies in logical order, keeps inventory current, and disposes of outdated or unusable material in a manner consistent with University policy. Periodically conducts physical inventory of equipment and supplies.
3. Manages and coordinates Nursing Learning Center media, computer, and electronic resources. Organizes and inventories books, tapes, computer disks, and other learning materials in the NLC Research room. Assures that materials borrowed from this resource are returned in a timely manner.
4. Provides purchase information to the Dean of Nursing for NLC equipment and supplies and organizes this information for the School of Nursing secretary.
5. Performs routine equipment maintenance and repair. Coordinates maintenance of equipment that requires specialized skills in collaboration with the Dean of Nursing.
6. Supervises performance of NLC assistants. Develops schedule for student assistants in a manner that supports the effectiveness of the NLC.
7. Collaborates and coordinates at the School of Nursing level to keep faculty informed of developments in clinical simulation equipment and programs.
8. Acts as professional role model for students.
9. Maintains effective working relationships with students, other laboratory assistants and faculty.
10. Works within guidelines for level of student established by clinical course coordinators to set up equipment and supplies in instructional areas.
11. Insures the proper storage and disposal of hazardous waste materials according to OSHA standards. Insures that personal protective equipment is available and in good working order when students and faculty are using NLC resources.
12. May be assigned other duties as seen fit by the Dean of Nursing.
Registered Nurse with BSN Degree, Current license as RN in the State of Michigan, Preference given to person with teaching and nursing practice experience
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
