Function and Responsibility
Under administrative supervision of the Director of Business Office to assist in the operation and administration of the Business Office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate the assigned accounting activities; ascertain that established University financial policies and procedures are being followed; implement changes in accounting processes to reflect changes in the regulations, polices and procedure of the various Federal, State and professional bodies that impact the operations of the University business areas; maintain and update the software packages used by the University; develop software solutions as needed.

Prepare and post journals to record financial activity of the University; allocate expenses and revenues; review journals prepared by other staff members; post transactions to the various subsystems; periodically review system records and detail records including cash transactions and correct as needed, provide assistance to student, other University personnel and third parties with questions and issues.

Prepare various financial and analytical reports as needed, including periodic external and internal reports, monthly reports and annual financial reports; analyze and reconcile accounts; coordinate the input of data into the computerized accounting system; conduct or assist with periodic audit functions across campus; coordinate activities with various staff members who are authorized to administer funds for their department or activity; execute computer programs on the main computer and personal computers to process business data and generate various detail and ledger records and management reports; prepare schedules for the annual audit; assign coding to transactions; give directions to and assist other Business Office staff in problem solving; coordinate records retention for the Business Office.

Understand the operation of assigned areas of financial system and student system modules of the mainframe computer systems and be able to operate or supervise operation of them in the absence of staff regularly assigned to those responsibilities.

Evaluate present accounting and operational systems and recommend changes if needed.

Supervise or assist in supervising student assistants or clerical staff as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with major in accounting; knowledge of governmental fund accounting; three to five years of experience in accounting work including electronic data processing; familiarity with spreadsheet applications preferred.

 
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear and speak with or without use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
