Title: Assistant Director of Facilities
Function and Responsibility
As a staff member of University management and under the administrative supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Assistant Director is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of facilities maintenance, plant operations and maintenance, the Central Heating Plant and assist the director with the management of all other areas of physical plant responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct supervision of the facilities maintenance and operations including site utilities, trades, energy management system, corrective and preventative maintenance programs, related emergency and safety systems.

Direct supervision of the Central Heating Plant maintenance and operations including boiler and boiler systems, chemical systems, steam distribution and related equipment.

Provide employees and managers of physical plant with technical assistance and recommendations when needed.

Prepare and administer budgets and analysis for areas of responsibility.

Assist in the preparation and administration of all department budgets and analysis.

Assist in the preparation and administration of departmental programs, cost estimates, specifications, surveys, reports, budget reviews, accounting, procurement and contracted services.

In coordination with Physical Plant Engineering Services inspect all university facilities and related infrastructure and assist in developing a maintenance plan for each.

Assist the Director of Facilities with design review, preparing specifications, plans and provide field project management when needed.

Assist in the implementation of physical plant operation and safety procedures.

Develop and maintain operating procedures and records for operations and performance of building systems and the Central Heating Plant.

Coordinate work of contracted services and service personnel engaged in building systems, installation, service and other contractual services as required.

Assume the duties of other physical plant managers in their absence.

Assume the duties of the Director in the Director’s absence.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the maintenance and operation of building systems and central heating plants supporting higher education or similar facility. A minimum of five years management experience in the operation of a central heating plant and building systems, controls and maintenance. Must have a working knowledge of computers and computer systems.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to allow inspection of various University and area facilities and equipment; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; must have a mechanical aptitude and problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
