Title: Director of PSA Operations
Function and Responsibility
The Director of Public School Academy (PSA) Operations, under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, provides guidance and oversight for the PSAs authorized by the university, and serves as the interim director of the University Center at Dearborn.
Duties and Responsibilities
Report to the LSSU Board of Trustees: recommend approval or renewal of charter applications or amendments to charters; recommend appointments to PSA Boards; recommend Board of Trustees policy regarding PSAs and their authorization. Report on performance of students at each PSA.

Monitor PSA Operations budget, as approved by the Provost. Submit invoices for payment. Recommend appropriate use of funds to improve PSA performance and benefit students. Monitor financial operations of PSAs and ensure that due diligence is performed with respect to financial documents or transactions.

Working with assistant director for compliance and PSA field officers, insure that all PSA teachers are highly qualified and that required criminal and background checks are completed. Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal law and regulations, and that PSA facilities are reasonably safe. Represent the university and the PSA Office by involvement and attendance at national, state and university meetings as scheduled. Maintain contact with PSA board members, teachers, administrators, students, parents and management company staff members through school visits and attendance at PSA board meetings. Respond to and follow-up with university, academy and state on complaints of students, parents or other interested parties. Provide guidance and training for PSA board members and staff.

Maintain communications with Provost. Consult with university counsel on legal matters related to the university or the PSAs. Evaluate and supervise assistant director and other staff members.

Develop and assess a process for reviewing contracts and applications, measuring performance, and providing assistance for school improvement.

Develop and recommend programs for the benefit of PSA students and the university, such as dual-enrollment, summer camps, teaching internship placements and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff members. Work to increase enrollments and the number of charter schools authorized.

Working with academic administrators and faculty members, establish programs of study to be offered at the University Center at Dearborn; develop program articulations with other institutions of higher education at the Center; staff, schedule and assess course offerings at the University Center.

Perform other tasks as assigned for continuing improvement of PSAs.

Masters degree; minimum of five years experience in K-12 or university administration, including experience in supervision of faculty and staff members, budget management, curriculum development and assessment; teaching experience at K-12 or university level preferred. Knowledge of Michigan Department of Education operations and PSA operations desired. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to work long days, evenings and weekends, and extensive automobile travel during difficult weather conditions required.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to maintain long hours and busy schedule; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills in operation of computer equipment; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities.
