Title: Financial Aid Officer-Grants
 
Function and Responsibility
Under the administrative supervision of the Director of Financial Aid to assist in the implementation of financial aid policies and procedures and provide financial aid information to the university community and prospective and current students.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Act as an advisor in the Office of Financial Aid, counseling students and parents about financial aid and financing options. Travel as needed to provide financial aid expertise to prospective students. Conduct training sessions for new and current students. Participate in high school visits, college night programs and regional center outreach programs. Reply to student inquiries via web and general correspondence and office calls and visits. Provide back up to the Technical Operations Manager with Banner tasks and reporting.

Responsible for student files review, need analysis, verification, awarding and adjusting of aid through manual and automatic packaging method. Responsible for the accurate reporting of federal, state and institutional aid programs as needed.

Maintain a working knowledge of all Federal, State, and institutional regulations, rules, policies and procedures governing financial aid. Compile budget estimates for Cost of Attendance annually.

Primary responsibility for the monitoring of newly admitted students and their scholarship eligibility and award including working with Admissions to assure accuracy of award and timeliness of letters. Responsible for review of student transcripts for rigorous program of study for federal grants and ACT and SAT scores and for transfer scholarship purposes, and for monitoring for Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Primary responsibility for awarding and monitoring students for federal grant programs, including Pell Grants and the ACG and SMART grants and the TEACH program and reconciliation of funds. Responsible for Transfer Monitoring coordination efforts with other schools and COD, NSLDS and GAPS.

Act as primary counselor for Teach Grants including ensuring that students are awarded properly and the processing is accurate and timely. Maintain a working knowledge of all federal and state grants to ensure institution is in compliance with all requirements.

Primary responsibility for the processing of private scholarships, third party payers coordination with the Business Office and other offices including Veteranís Benefits, Michigan Works, Vocational Rehabilitation funds.

Act as primary liaison between LSSU, Regional Centers, and Regional Center students to ensure that students understand the process and timelines. Process Consortium forms and credit confirmation for Regional Center students to ensure that their aid is processed in a timely fashion. Review Satisfactory Academic Progress for Regional Center students. Ensure that Regional Center budgets are correctly reflected as to their actual tuition.

In the absence of the Director, be responsible for the operation of the office.

Perform related duties as assigned, prepare reports with Discoverer and Excel, assist with presentations at university events and travel when required.

 
Qualifications
Good working knowledge of student aid programs, related regulations and federal need analysis system required. Strong verbal/written interpersonal communication skills required.

Familiarity with computer systems and excellent data entry skills required. Good analytical and math skills required. Bachelorís degree and minimum of two years experience in financial aid preferred.

Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks and to represent the University in promotional and recruiting activities.
