Title: Finance Specialist
Function and Responsibility
Develop and Implement a Financial Monitoring System for Public School Academies. Reports to the Director of PSA Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review PSA financial reports, budgets, audited financial statements and other documents to determine compliance with the Michigan School Accounting Manual, the Uniform Budgeting and Accounting Act, the Revised Municipal Finance Act, the State School Act and other acts and regulations governing PSA finances. Monitor actions of PSA staff members and PSA Boards of Directors to ensure that appropriate procedures are followed and that necessary actions are taken for submission of and action on annual PSA budgets and amendments; and production and submission of quarterly financial statements. Review of annual independent financial audit and management letter. Review third party contracts and report any identifies deficiencies to the Director and Assistant Director. Communicate with PSA financial officers on a regular basis and offer assistance when appropriate. Assist with PSA Board development activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Coordinate with the Vice President for Finance on the Charter School Budget.
Certified public accountant with bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree in accounting required. Experience in budgeting and auditing preferred.

Use of gross motor skills to perform organizational duties; use of fine motor skills in operation of computer equipment; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities, ability to travel overnight during difficult driving conditions.
