Title: Controller
Function and Responsibility
Provide leadership and coordination of University financial reporting and budget management functions. Ensure University accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. This position is accountable for the accounting operations of the University, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the University's reported financial results. This position reports to the Vice President for Finance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate the University's financial reporting function; ascertain that established University financial policies and procedures are being followed; implement changes in accounting processes to reflect changes in the regulations, polices and procedures of the various Federal, State and professional bodies that impact the operations of the University business areas; oversee maintenance and updates to the software packages used by the University; recommend and implement software solutions as needed.

Oversee daily operations of the Business Office and manage the accounting staff. Develop a working knowledge of the operation of all areas of the Business Office and be able to reassign duties or perform them in the absence of staff regularly assigned to those responsibilities.

Ensure that all financial functions are performed and reports are issued in a timely and complete manner; maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; assist in the development and maintenance of a system of interim reporting, benchmarking and analysis.

Assist in the development and maintenance of annual budgets; monitor and analyze operating results against budget.

Understand relational database structure related to accounting and reporting systems to ensure proper functioning. Use technical abilities to promote complete and efficient utilization of existing and proposed systems.

Assist in the direction of financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Masters degree and/or CPA required. Must have a working knowledge of governmental fund accounting and relational database structure related to accounting and reporting systems.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear and speak with or without use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
