Title: Honors Program Director
Function and Responsibility
Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Honors Program and Honors Council; working closely with the Provost and other offices/officers of the University to promote and grow the Honors Program; ensuring honor students have an academically and socially rewarding experience at LSSU.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program/Curriculum: Provide leadership on Honors Council and to faculty to solicit, discuss, promote, and run honors course proposals. Initiate and foster communication between students, Council, faculty, and Registrar for all honors contracts. Represent the unique interests of the Program through maintaining contact with Provost and budget officers.

Administrative Activities: The Director will update and review student records for eligibility; draft and send status letters to students; assist with the completion of honors load reports, maintain web pages, coordinate attendance at MHA Conference, maintain budget, solicit new course proposals, work EUP college fair (work with admissions on letters), assist with Fall Fling (work with admissions on letters), assist the Provost with graduation activities (honors breakfast, etc), review and maintain honors handbook, and attend Lakerpalooza.

Schedule: Assist the Provost with scheduling of classes by providing a draft schedule.

Students: Assist the Provost in the recruitment of future students and provide leadership in advising current and past students; develop honors contracts, recruit students (into courses and the program), review thesis progress reports, contact all potential honors students, plan and lead several honors trips, meet with all potential honors students at orientations (year round), work with students on honors housing, meet with Laker Gold candidates, and approve degree audits, waivers, substitutions, and applications as required or authorized by LSSU policies and procedures.

Budget: Assist the Provost in preparation of recommendations for Honors budget.

Website: Continually review and improve the honors website in consultation with Webmaster.

Admissions and Orientations: Communicate with incoming students and their parents. When applicable, interview incoming students. Assist Admissions at events to attract the best possible students. Present at, advise, and assist with registration at Orientation events.

Housing: Assist the Housing Department in oversight of Ontario Hall East and West (or current Honors Housing).

Alpha Chi Activities: Oversee all activities of Alpha Chi, including membership, meetings, field trips, retreats, arrangements for speakers, and ceremony preparations (invitations, accommodations, supplies, etc.).
The Director shall possess a Doctorate in his/her field of expertise, five to seven year of teaching experience at LSSU, rank of Associate or Full Professor, documented evidence of teaching excellence, excellent interpersonal skills, good computer skills, and strong oral and written communication ability.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform assigned tasks.
