Title: Director of Public School Academy Field Operations
Function and Responsibility
Under the direction of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Director provides guidance to and oversight of assigned public school academies. The local administrative presence for one or more public school academies (PSAs), assists with providing research analysis to the University concerning the feasibility of expanding the authorization of additional PSAs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise the activities and evaluate the performance of other public school academy field officers if any; plan, conduct and/or supervise training of PSA Boards and administrators.

Assist with audits and analysis of authorized public school academies and evaluate PSA applicants for LSSU authorization.

Participate as a member of the Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Public School Academy (PSA) Review Committee; represent LSSU with the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA) and attend meetings of LSSU’s Board of Trustees if requested.

Develop activities and provide training to other public school academy field officers. Evaluate PSA field officers and make recommendations to LSSU administration.

Review charter school financial statements and curriculum with appropriate University departments. Support the PSA in curriculum development.

On an annual basis review the loss control reports from insurance companies for reasonable compliance by the public school academies.
Monitor the preparation of PSA reports to the University and state agencies to ensure timely and accurate submission.

Monitor the academies’ compliance with contracts and legislation relevant to site visits, insurance, risk management, and student enrollment lotteries.

Contact PSA administrator on a bi-weekly basis; meet with PSA administrators on a monthly or bi-monthly basis; review status of academies; plan for continuing improvement.

Provide monthly PSA status reports. Provide a general update report for each Board of Trustees meeting, with specific information assigned to each meeting date.

Attend board meetings of assigned PSAs; ensure meetings are posted, a quorum is in attendance; minutes are written properly, and meetings are held according to the law.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of five years experience in K-12 school curriculum and personnel administration; certification by the Michigan Department of Education to teach in the state of Michigan required; familiarity with the Michigan Department of Education criteria for administration and authorization of public school academies preferred; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to travel to multiple locations and attend public school academy board meetings at various times, including evenings and weekends.

Adequate physical fitness to maintain long hours and busy schedule; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills in operation of keyboard equipment; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities; ability to work with numbers in budgetary preparations.
