Title: Information Technology Specialist
 
Function and Responsibility
Under the direction of Vice Provost for Information Technology, provide professional skills and knowledge to work with all faculty teaching basic skills courses and others involved in developmental education to (i) develop computer assisted instruction (CAI) environments in all disciplines, (ii) help evaluate software applications needed to integrate CAI into the instructional programs of the University, and (iii) design and implement in-service training programs in applications of information technology in instruction.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop seminars and training programs oriented toward bringing faculty and staff to a high level of skill and comfort in the developmental and general education applications of instructional technology, including, but not limited to applications of solitary and networked multi-media microcomputers, interactive television and electronic devices for the visually and hearing impaired.

Participate in the design and implementation of a University Help Desk to ensure rapid and effective responses to faculty, staff and students with questions.

Coordinate the evaluation, acquisition and training in the uses of educational software and other technology based materials.
 
Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in instructional technology or related area, or equivalent related work experience; familiarity with educational applications of microcomputers and microcomputer networks; ability to communicate effectively and to work well with diverse populations of learners, including faculty, students and University staff; familiarity with distance learning applications of wide area networks, and interactive television is desirable.
 
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; use of gross motor skills to perform organizational duties; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids.
