Title: Photographer/Writer
Function and Responsibility
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Public Relations, assists in the operational area of the Public Relations Office and the Graphics Department in accordance with the mission, objectives, directives, procedures and policies of the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Takes, processes, prepares photographs and slides for University news releases, visual displays and other official publications, as assigned.

Participates in preparing material for media including writing and disseminating news releases; prepares and disseminates radio and commercial television material, as assigned.

Edits and produces the Almanac, weather calendar and telephone directory annually.

Establishes and maintains photo files; orders, controls and maintains supplies; manages Public Relations darkroom.

Provides professional advice and counsel to the campus community concerning photographic techniques, photo selections for University publications, publicity programs and photojournalism aspects of University activities.

Participates in community activities and civic events as the University's representative, as assigned; participates in professional meetings, conferences and University committees, as assigned.

Trains and supervises student workers.

Reports to Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement on issues relating to the University’s web page; assists in maintaining visual and copy content according to established policies and procedures; provides necessary photographs and video; provides copy and edits same when necessary; supervises student employees assigned to the web.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in journalism; three years experience as a professional photographer or photojournalist; must have darkroom processing and word processing skills; journalistic writing and editing skills; outstanding interpersonal skills; supervisory ability; initiative, tact and discretion to present a professional image.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to maintain confidentiality of the office; willingness to work an erratic, sometimes extended schedule, including weekends and evenings and occasionally travel.
Physical and Mental Demands
Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
